A scanned document with wide margins, a stray printed border, or a page that needs trimming down to just the relevant section — cropping a PDF used to mean opening heavy desktop software. It doesn't anymore.
When You'd Need to Crop a PDF
- Removing wide margins from a scanned document before printing
- Cutting a page down to just a signature block or a specific clause
- Trimming a screenshot-to-PDF export that has extra white space
How to Crop One Online
- Upload the PDF to a free online crop tool — no account needed for a single file.
- Select the area to keep by dragging the crop box over the page.
- Preview the result before exporting — check that nothing important got cut off, especially near the edges.
- Download the cropped file.
A Few Things to Watch For
Cropping only changes what's visible when the page is viewed or printed — it doesn't reduce the underlying content, so text near a cropped edge can sometimes still be selectable or searchable even though it's hidden. If the document needs to be genuinely redacted (information permanently removed, not just hidden), cropping isn't the right tool for that.
