Why 20% + 10% Is Not 30% Off? I Made This Mistake
I was running a sale. First 20% off, then extra 10% off for members. I thought it was 30% total. I priced my product at $70 instead of $72. I lost $2 on every sale that day. If you think multiple discounts just add up, you are losing money too.
The Common Problem With Stacked Discounts
Most people calculate multiple discounts wrong. You have a $100 product, 20% off makes it $80, then another 10% off should be from $80, not from $100. So it's $80 - $8 = $72. Not $70. On mobile, with a normal calculator, this is confusing and you make mistakes.
How to Calculate It Right in 10 Seconds
Step 1: Calculate First Discount
Original Price x (1 - First Discount). Example: $100 x 0.80 = $80.
Step 2: Calculate Second Discount From New Price
New Price x (1 - Second Discount). Example: $80 x 0.90 = $72. That's your final price.
My Advice: Don't do it manually. Use a Discount Calculator that has a "multiple discounts" option. On your phone, just enter price, enter 20% and 10%, it shows $72 instantly. No headache.
